FLOOR CARE INFORMATION
wood floor care photoAfter your floor is finished:
  1. Because each piece of wood is different in grain and texture, we cannot guarantee a completely flat surface. All wood varies in grain and color and will absorb the stain and finish differently from one board to the next. Thus making monotone-colored floors impossible.
  2. It is impossible to create a dust-free environment. Thus, small dust particles will fall into the finish creating roughness in your floor, but will wear away as you begin to use your floor.
  3. Cracks between boards are normal with all wood floors. Wood flooring, being a product of nature, has some water in it at all times. The moisture content in the wood changes as the moisture in the environment changes. Wood floors tend to shrink in winter when heating your home. Use of a humidifier will help minimize cracks.
  4. Do not walk on floors for 8-12 hours after finish has been laid.
  5. Curing of the finishes take several weeks and the finish is easily scratched until it is fully cured. Do not put down area rugs for 30 days. Try to keep dogs outside during this period.
  6. We would recommend a screen and coat (new coat of finish) every 1-2 years for preventative maintenance.
    General care and maintenance:
  1. We have wood floor care kits especially for your floors available at our office for $35.
  2. Regularly sweep or vacuum the floor to prevent sand or abrasive dust from accumulating and scratching the finish.
  3. Mop the floor with plain water (10 parts water) and vinegar (1 part vinegar) or a manufacturer's recommended no wax cleaner.
  4. Place doormats outside and rugs inside at every entrance of the house, again to prevent sand or abrasive dust from accumulating on the floor.
  5. Place a rug in front of the kitchen sink, kitchen working stations, and the dishwasher to protect the floor from dropped kitchen accessories and from water or oily detergent spills.
  6. Use adequate floor protection (wood floor protector pads) under all furniture and chairs legs, in order to ease their movements and to prevent scratching the floor.
  7. Keep "high heel" shoes in good condition.  Damaged or worn high heels may expose a metal tip which will certainly damage your hardwood floor.
  8. Protect your floor against direct sunlight or any intense source of artificial lighting.  Over time, intense light will discolor exposed surfaces.  This phenomenon with wood surfaces is normal and natural. The lighter the color of the natural wood, the more apparent this phenomenon will be.
